Arrows vs Zap. Which one is better?
Arrows and Zap are 2 cards that have similar roles. Both are primarily used to kill off groups of low-hp troops like goblins, minions, minion horde, etc. However in the current meta zap is typically the better option. Here's why:
- Over the past few weeks we have seen a decline of minion horde. Minion horde used to be in a good majority of decks, but since then has lost it's popularity due to its extremely high risk (easy to counter). One of the main differences between arrows and zap is that zap is unable to fully kill minions of the same level. That being said, it can still stop an entire minion horde from reaching your tower. Minion Horde's decreased popularity gives room for zap to shine.
- Zap is typically played with fireball. This is important, as you still have a method of dealing with higher-hp grouped troops like fully killing minion hordes, bombers, and weakening cards like wizard, witch, barbarians, (3) musketeer(s), etc. Fireball also provides means to deal with groups of buildings, as well as provide you the final bit of damage needed to finish off a crown tower. Basically, Zap and Fireball should 90% of the time be used together.
- Zap's unique mechanic of stunning enemy units is extremely useful in the current meta. Zap is a hard counter to the sparky if used correctly (check out our sparky guide for specifics), and also great at resetting the inferno tower's damage. This is important because people often find themselves at an elixir disadvantage when using a Royal Giant against an inferno tower. Zapping the inferno tower after 2-3 seconds completely negates its damage.
- Probably the only true downside with the zap is it cannot kill a princess by itself. This is simply something you have to be willing to accept, as in most cases your opponents will not have a princess. If they do, you will probably be forced to either fireball it or allow it to get to the bridge before dealing with it.
- Zap preforms just as well as Arrows in most cases, while being 1 elixir cheaper. You can use it to kill goblins, skeletons, spear goblins, goblin barrel, etc. Zap does require more skill and better timing, as it's width is only 2.5 compared to arrow's 4.
Obviously the meta constantly changes which is why we have our weekly meta snapshots, but as of now the zap definitely is the better option in most cases. We hope this guide helped you increase your knowledge!
